I read through your science lesson plan. I think that it is a great idea to take the student into the lab so that there is a 1:1 student to computer ratio. You had the students actively using technology. I wonder if adding videos or sounds to the assignment wouldn't help. You could even create webpages for the animals and include video, sound, and pictures all in one place.
